Between 2014 and 2017, Martin Venezky was chosen as the Joyce C. Hall Distinguished Professor of Design. Through this partnership, Martin visited the Kansas City Art Institute several times providing critiques, lectures, and a variety of workshops. In preparation for his final visit, design students at all levels collaborated in constructing, photographing and printing a variety of 4x6” abstract photographs. Martin then chose myself along with 2 other students to assist in creating a massive photo construction just inside the department’s entrance. During the intense 4 day installation period, the students and Martin sorted through over 10,000 photos and constructed the massive collage composition. Us students were taught to consider the form, repetition, connection between the individual photos in order to create the large, eye-catching final piece. The final installation stayed up through the spring semester.
